Meet The Editor
Alec Rodamilans is a first-year student at McMaster University with a deep passion for philosophy, particularly existentialism. Inspired by thinkers like Camus, Merleau-Ponty, and Beauvoir, he explores the human condition through both academic study and creative expression.
Beyond philosophy, Alec is deeply engaged with global events, believing it is essential for the younger generation to have a space to voice their perspectives on the rapidly changing world. This conviction led to the creation of Afarid0fAsteroids, a magazine dedicated to capturing the conversations, ideas, and events that define our era.
When not writing or editing, Alec enjoys playing soccer, playing guitar, and spending time with his cats, Pogi and Maki
The Importance of writing.
Writing has always been an important aspect of my life like many others. The ability to capture personal thoughts, and transform them into pages of discussion, is uniquely human. It allows us to communicate with both the people before us, living with us and who will live many years after we are gone. The idea behind starting this magazine was to highlight the great conversations I’ve been fortunate enough to have with people around me, as well as to be able to capture the interesting times that we are currently living in.
As wars brew, the climate shifts, and hope dwindles, I believe now more than ever, we must passionately and deliberately document the energy, ideas, and events of our time. That is where the magazine comes from. The inspiration from my personal idol Albert Camu when he founded his paper in similar times meanwhile France was occupied by the Nazis.
Troubled Times
Afraid0fAsteroids is both a name that I give to any of my projects of great importance, but as well I firmly believe it reflects the magazines message. The name comes from after I read a book by author Eric Walters as a kid, and how defenceless, and at mercy I felt at Asteroids. Today my fear of Asteroids stands but as well as my fear of war, famine and injustice and I believe that the best way to deflect Asteroids is by writing and bringing awareness to it. -Editor, Alec Rodamilans.
